This Privacy Policy explains what information the ModaScan mobile application ("ModaScan", "we", "our") collects when you use it, how that information is used, and the choices you have. We've written it to be readable — if anything is unclear, contact us at the address below.

1. What we collect

1.1 Photos you scan

When you take or upload a photo to scan an item, the image is sent to Google Gemini (a Google AI service) for analysis. Gemini returns a structured description (brand, product, color, category) which we use to query price information.

• Photos are transmitted over HTTPS.
• We do not store your scan photos on our servers.
• Google's handling of the image is governed by their Gemini API Additional Terms and Privacy Policy.

1.2 Account information (only if you sign in)

ModaScan supports sign-in with Google and Apple. If you choose to sign in, we receive:

• Your email address
• Your name (if shared by the provider)
• A unique provider-specific user identifier

You can use ModaScan without signing in. Sign-in is only required to sync your wishlist across devices.

1.3 Scan history and wishlist

Your recent scan history and saved wishlist items are stored locally on your device using secure on-device storage. If you sign in, your wishlist is also synced to our backend so you can access it across devices.

1.4 Usage data

We track a per-user monthly scan counter on your device to enforce free-tier limits. We do not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or behavioral profiling tools.

2. How we use this information

• To identify products — your scan photo is sent to Google Gemini for analysis, then we query third-party retail APIs to find matching listings and prices.
• To deliver the app's core features — saving wishlist items, showing scan history, syncing across signed-in devices.
• To enforce free-tier limits — counting scans per calendar month.
• To provide customer support — if you contact us, we use the email address you write from to reply.

We do not sell or rent your data. We do not use your data for advertising or behavioral targeting. We do not share your information with anyone except as described in Section 4 below.

3. Permissions we request

• Camera — required to take photos for scanning. Used only when you tap "Scan" or open the camera.
• Photo Library — optional, used if you choose to scan an item from your existing photos, or set a profile picture.

You can revoke either permission at any time in your device settings. The scan flow will not work without camera access.

4. Third parties we share data with

We share specific data with the following services only as needed to deliver app functionality:

• Google Gemini (image analysis): receives your scan photo. Google's Privacy Policy.
• Google Sign-In (optional): if you sign in with Google, your Google account information is shared per Google's terms.
• Apple Sign In (optional, iOS only): if you sign in with Apple, your Apple ID information is shared per Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Our backend price API (api.modascan.ffstage.com): receives the AI-derived product name and category to look up store listings. Your photo is never sent to this service.

5. Data retention

• Scan photos — not retained by us; sent to Google Gemini for analysis and then discarded.
• Scan history — stored locally on your device, automatically purged after 30 days.
• Wishlist — kept until you remove items or delete your account.
• Account data — retained while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time.

6. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the information we hold about you.
• Correct any inaccurate information.
• Delete your account and associated data.
• Export your wishlist data.
• Object to processing or withdraw consent (where applicable).

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, additional rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA apply. We honor these rights regardless of your jurisdiction.

7. Children's privacy

ModaScan is rated 4+ in the App Store but is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use HTTPS for all network communication. Local data on your device is stored using the platform's secure storage APIs (Apple Keychain on iOS, EncryptedSharedPreferences on Android). No security model is perfect — if you discover a vulnerability, please contact us responsibly at the email below.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when we change how the app handles data. Material changes will be highlighted in-app or via email (for signed-in users). The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always shows the current version's date.
