ModaScan uses Google Gemini for image analysis. It works very well for items from well-known brands with visible logos or distinctive features, and less well for generic items with no visible branding. When the AI isn't confident, we show a "we're not 100% sure" notice instead of a definitive best match. Always verify product, color, and price on the retailer's site before purchasing.
Prices come from third-party retailer APIs that index marketplace listings. Marketplaces sometimes have keyword-stuffed listings where the title doesn't match the actual product, or stale prices. We do our best to rank the most relevant result first, but no automated system is perfect.
The free tier includes 10 scans per calendar month. The counter resets on the 1st of each month. Premium tiers with unlimited scans are coming soon.
The core feature of ModaScan is scanning items from your camera. We only access the camera when you actively tap "Scan." You can revoke camera access at any time in your device settings, but the scan flow will not work without it.
Your scan photos are sent to Google Gemini for analysis and then discarded — we don't store them on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
You can use ModaScan without signing in (limited to local scan history and wishlist). To sync your wishlist across devices, sign in with Google (Android and iOS) or Sign in with Apple (iOS only). Open the app, go to the Profile tab, and tap the sign-in button.
Email us at info@modascan.com from the email address linked to your account. We'll delete your account and associated data within 30 days.
Open the app → Profile tab → Settings → Clear scan history.
That's a known limitation of text-only matching. The actual product might be lower in the list — scroll down to "Other recommended items" or the price list to find it. If you scan a specific item and it consistently shows the wrong best match, email us with a screenshot and we'll investigate.
This usually means the price API didn't return any results for the specific product variant detected. Try scanning again, or check the "More from {brand}" section for related items.
Identification works globally. Pricing data is most accurate for retailers in the EU, UK, and US. Coverage in other regions is more limited and is expanding.
